Bernice King, who, like her father, is also a pastor, said American politicians have reduced the anti-racist legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. to a "comfortable and convenient King", forgetting his true words. "We love quoting King around the holiday. But we refuse to live King the remaining 365 days of the year”, said the reverend at a mass at the Baptist Chapel of Ebenezer, where her father preached, near Atlanta, in the US state of Georgia.

For Bernice King, Martin Luther King Jr. he was "a prophet sent to this nation and this world", warning about the challenges of racism, social inequalities, the brutality of the forces of authority and aggressive migration policies.

The reverend also confessed to being "exhausted, exasperated and, frankly, disappointed" to see that her father's words translated into "little progress".
