France vows to “avoid the mistakes of the past” in Africa

"We must stop looking at Africa as a field in which we have to compete, often to the detriment of all stakeholders, but look at the continent as a space in which we can establish partnership relations".

For the French President, it is possible to go a little further from the current framework of cooperation, with the establishment of new partnerships with African countries that focus on strengthening cooperation in the scientific area, setting up factories to produce vaccines and advancing cultural exchange.

"We are going a little further than the gestures we have seen for months, in which France was able to return Benin's cultural assets. Today, the Central Bank of France and the International Cooperation Agency are going to promote a new type of engagement, above all in facilitating access to credit for African entrepreneurs,” he said.

Defending that his country "prefers to see solid institutions being consolidated in Africa to the detriment of providential men", Macron added that the French objectives in Africa are to make his country a reference partner on the continent.
