Common market to get out of dependence on imports

On the sidelines of the 36th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union, Commissioner Josefa Sacko said that Africa needs to change the narrative, driven by recent global shocks and crises, to achieve the goals of the 2030 and 2063 agendas.

According to the African Union commissioner for Agriculture, Rural Economy, Blue Economy and Environment, “Africa has committed itself to placing intra-African trade in a position of up to 30 percent of inter-country exchanges in seven more years. We are seeing a country like Zambia, which, from being a major importer, accelerated its ambition with the implementation of the Free Trade Area, and is now producing and encouraging youth, through attractive models and public policies, access to financing and an entire ecosystem favorable to the business”.

Sacko was satisfied that the African Union had decided to extend the year dedicated to nutrition, which took place in 2022, until 2025. However, he wants concrete commitments to emerge from this summit.

"I would like to see very concrete statements about this. The food crisis is on the agenda and now the States are seeing that something has to be done. Our report was well received and reinforced by the member countries and I believe that the final communiqué of this "The summit will serve to mobilize more resources. We know the problem and we have the solution, we cannot always extend a hand, the money exists somewhere and we have to invest if we want to be credible and ensure a better future", he advanced.
