"We successfully controlled the Ebola epidemic in Uganda", assured the Ugandan Minister of Health, Jane Ruth Aceng, during a ceremony in Mubende, the epicenter of the epidemic.

According to WHO criteria, an outbreak is considered closed when there are no new cases for 42 consecutive days, twice the number of days of incubation of the disease.

The outbreak was declared in Mubende on 20 September last year, having spread across the country and causing 55 deaths.
