São Tomé and Príncipe submitted to Unesco, for the first time, an indicative list of candidacy for world heritage, which will be chosen among natural parks and gardens, in a process that should be completed in two years.

The indicative list of natural heritage includes the Obô, São Tomé and Príncipe Islands natural parks, and the list of cultural heritage includes Roças Monte Café and Água Izé, in São Tomé, and Roça Sundy, on Príncipe island .
After presenting the indicative list, the Sao Tome authorities will have to choose between natural and cultural heritage in order to submit their candidacy for the Unesco world heritage list.
The Unesco regional director for Central Africa highlighted the potential of São Tomé and Príncipe's natural heritage, which he considered as "a very important reserve of biodiversity on the planet".
