The Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency of Central Africa (CEREEAC), inaugurated in Luanda, capital of Angola, will be managed, over the next five years, with a budget of nine million Euros, guaranteeing low-cost consumption, according to the Angolan Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges.
Economy and Development April 11, 2023
Baptista Borges highlighted that Central Africa, made up of 11 countries (Angola, Burundi, Cameroon, Chad, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, São Tomé and Príncipe, Central African Republic and Rwanda), is located in an area rich in energy resources, consisting of water, sun and biomass, in addition to having a population of approximately 200 million inhabitants.
“We intend to use renewable resources to combat energy poverty, to ensure that energy is produced at low costs, without polluting the environment, reaching rural areas or communities without access to the energy source”, he said.
The center will bring benefits, such as the sharing of knowledge between the countries that make up the community, training and capacity building of technicians.
“We intend to make access to renewable energy more inclusive, especially in the countryside, as well as to make the electrification process faster”, he assured.
