"In the fight against terrorism in Mozambique, in the province of Cabo Delgado, one can observe this principle of African solutions to African problems", said Nyusi.
The Mozambican Head of State was speaking during the conference "Silencing the guns in Africa in 2030", promoted in Addis Ababa, capital of Ethiopia, by the Royal Institute of International Affairs of the United Kingdom (Chatham House).
The joint action of the defense and security forces of Mozambique, Rwanda and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) in the fight against armed groups operating in Cabo Delgado shows that intra-African cooperation can produce satisfactory results, he added.
"Mozambique, Rwanda and SADC defense and security forces are committed to successfully combating terrorists, gradually restoring tranquility within the populations of districts previously occupied by terrorists", said Nyusi.
Cabo Delgado province has been facing an armed insurgency for five years with some attacks claimed by the extremist group Islamic State.
The insurgency has led to a military response since July 2021 with the support of Rwanda and SADC, liberating districts next to gas projects, but new waves of attacks have emerged in the south of the region and in the neighboring province of Nampula.
The conflict has already displaced one million people, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and around 4,000 deaths, according to the ACLED conflict registration project.
