"Sasol Mozambique made a discovery of natural gas in the Bonito-1 research well, carried out in the PT5-C area of the Mozambique Basin, located in the southern part of the district of Inhassoro, province of Inhambane", according to the INP.

The oil company will accept "works to assess the deposit to determine the size of the discovery, as well as commercial viability", after opening a research well, between March 25th and April 5th, which reached a depth of 1,934 meters.

The discovery comes after a drilling without results.

"The Bonito-1 well is the second to be drilled in the PT5-C area, after the Dourado-1 well, whose result was negative", explained the INP.

The research and production contract for the PT5-C area was signed on October 17, 2018 after the fifth area concession tender.

Sasol Mozambique holds 70% of the participating interest, with Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH) holding the remaining 30%.
