The President of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, hopes that the single currency of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) will boost economic growth.

The legitimate expectation of the Member States is that the ECOWAS common currency becomes the lever to boost trade and, therefore, our economic growth”, said the Guinean President. ECOWAS intends to adopt in 2027 the new single currency, called ECO.

According to the Guinean head of state, the configuration that will result from this emerging monetary system in the ECOWAS space is the bearer of new hopes, of many promises of success, but also poses many and complex challenges, whether of a political or technological nature”.

The Guinean Minister of Finance, Ilídio Té, underlined that the new roadmap for the implementation of the ECOWAS single currency should be the "priority", including "raising the awareness of communities and peoples for the implementation of measures aimed at greater economic, financial integration and monetary”.

"The ECOWAS Guinean Presidency intends to take up this challenge and invites all Member States to fully comply with protocols relating to the movement of people and goods, liberalization of capital accounts and advances in the integration of financial markets", said the Minister of Finance .
