An international consortium, with the participation of Germany, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt, has signed a US$34 billion contract for a green hydrogen project in Mauritania.

The project will have an electrolyser capacity of up to 10 gigawatts and an annual production of up to 8 million tons of ammonia or other hydrogen-based end products.

The first phase of the project, located northeast of the coastal capital of Nouakchott, is due for completion in 2028 with a planned capacity of 400 megawatts.

The Egyptian company Infinity will be the energy supplier, while Masdar, from the United Arab Emirates, and the German Government are likely to be the main financiers.
