The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, declared that he "deeply regrets" what happened and that "the time has come to act on this shameful past".

After investigations made by the Anglican Church itself, the involvement of an entity created in 1948, called “Church Commissioners”, which “had links with the transatlantic slave trade” and which received monetary funds from another fund that dates back to the Queen Ana, in the 18th century, to help the poorest clerics.

The same source mentions that the monarch invested "significant amounts" in the South Sea Company and that she benefited from the slave trade to enrich herself. It was also proven that the organization received donations from plantation owners.

The statement suggests that the "Church Commissioners" deeply regret their predecessors' links to the Atlantic slave trade and that over the next nine years the most affected communities will be entitled to a fund of approximately $121 million.
