Cape-Verdean space defense will have support from Luxembourg

Luxembourg will support Cape Verde in space defence, within the scope of a satellite that the European country will launch later this year, hoping to improve surveillance and patrolling of the archipelago's territorial waters.

The announcement was made in the city of Praia by the Minister of State and Defense of Cape Verde, Janine Lélis, and by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, François Bausch, who officially visited the Cape-Verdean archipelago for two days.

The Luxembourg Minister of Defense and Mobility and Public Works also revealed that his country will launch a satellite later this year and that it will be operational in 2024, to observe the earth, with accurate images of the territory, helping a lot to guarantee its security.

"I am very happy with the continuation of this support, we started to support the country to equip the Cosmar [Maritime Security Operations Center] in Praia, training the coast guard. We will continue this help, offering something supplementary that is very important to guarantee the security in your territory, which is observation and images through space, through satellite”, stressed Bausch, at the end of a meeting between the two delegations.

François Bausch also justified support for Cape Verde in this area due to the role that the archipelago plays in the defense strategy in Africa, to combat various illicit acts.
