The recommendation is contained in a statement addressed to Member States at the end of the recent African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, at which Israel sought approval to join as an Observer State.
The decision on Israel's fate is still pending, following the failure to reach consensus on admission.
In a statement, made public, the continental bloc made the harshest comment so far on Israel's alleged mistreatment of Palestinians, also asking its members to end all direct and indirect commercial, scientific and cultural exchanges with the State of Israel.
