The African Organization of Petroleum Producers (APPO) is preparing plans to establish the African Energy Bank to finance oil and gas operations in Africa and avoid external financing limitations.

According to Omar Farouk Ibrahim, the secretary general of the APPO, by the end of the year, African member countries of the Petroleum Producers Organization will collaborate with the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) to launch an energy bank.

Farouk Ibrahim said, in a message of goodwill delivered at the edition of the Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES), recently held in Abuja, Nigeria, that the process of creating the bank, as well as the cooperation between APPO and Afreximbank, had reached a advanced: "A decision on the location of the headquarters and a launch date will be taken shortly".
