The amount was announced by the president of the African Development Bank Group (ADB), Akinwumi Adesina, during his closing speech at the event, held in Senegal. "With collective resolve and determination, we will work in coordination and partnership to help countries succeed.
It is truly amazing that in just two days we have collectively achieved so much," said Adesina. Senegal's Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Food Security, Aly Ngouille Ndiaye, praised "the pledges made of $10 billion from the AfDB and $20,000 millions of dollars from various other partners to support the transformation of African agriculture through the establishment of national compacts".
Among these partners is the Islamic Development Bank, which has pledged more than US$7 billion in funding for agricultural projects over the next five years in Africa, adding to the US$11 billion already invested by the institution on the African continent.
Agriculture is the main pillar of development; if it does not first develop its agriculture, Africa will not have surplus food, money and skills and human beings that will move the economy forward", said Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser, president of the Islamic Development Bank, during his speech.
