Africa should increase support for agriculture

This news in English

Increasing investment and optimizing spending in the agricultural sector will help transform agriculture on the continent and achieve food self-sufficiency, according to the Dakar Summit in Senegal, which recently addressed how African governments and development partners should be urged to increase investment and optimize spending to transform agriculture in Africa.

In their final communiqué, the continent's and world leaders sought to share visions on how to "Transform African Agricultural Policies" and feed the people.

How can policy makers better support African agriculture in the face of climate change? How can policy and institutional environments be made more conducive to attracting potential partnerships in agriculture? What is the role of governments in formalizing jobs and land reform to make the agricultural sector more inclusive? These were the questions around which the leaders shared their visions.

For the Regional Director of Sustainable Development for Africa at the World Bank, it is necessary to increase public investment, political reforms and the development of local institutions to access the international market for goods.
