Angola signed a memorandum with Namibia that will allow their currencies to be used again in both countries. The objective of the Angolan authorities is that the Kwanza becomes one of the currencies of the SADC region.
The elected rotating President of the African Union for this year's term, Assoumani Azali, called for the total cancellation of the African debt, aiming at "a post-Covid-19 economic recovery and also allowing to face the negative impact caused by the war in Ukraine".
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) praised Cape Verde's leadership in agriculture, even with water scarcity, noting that this has contributed to the improvement of food security in the country.
The Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, said that despite the challenges, the African continent is on the path of progress.
The African Union will launch a database on the debt situation in its member states, taking the first step towards monitoring and advising on possible difficulties.
Leaders endorsed a declaration to “jump forward the recovery of routine immunization in Africa” following disruptions caused by Covid-19, which have suspended childhood immunization programs and increased outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases.
